John Kasich
Biography |
John Kasich was born on May 13, 1952 in McKees Rocks, PA. His father was a mailman and Kasich is of Croatian and Czech decent. Kasich received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1974 from The Ohio State University. In 1970, while a freshman in college, Kasich wrote a letter to President Nixon requesting to meet. Said meeting was approved and took place in The White House in December of 1970 (see image to the left).
In 1978 Kasich was elected to the Ohio State Senate at the age of 24. From 1983-2001, Kasich served in the Untied States House of Representatives. He voted to impeach President Clinton in 1998 and was considered fiscal conservative. In March of 1999, Kasich announced that he was running for the Republican nomination for the presidential election. However, he dropped out of the race in July 1999 and endorsed George W. Bush. Kasich was elected as Governor of Ohio in 2011 and continues to hold that position. John Kasich and his wife, Karen Waldbillig have twin daughters and reside in Ohio. Kasich was raised Catholic however he is a member of the Anglican Church. He said that he turned to religion after a drunk driver in a car accident killed both of his parents in 1987. |
